Amy obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in social sciences from Michigan State University. From there she Upon graduation, she continued her education at Grand Valley State University obtaining her Master of Social Work.  During this time, she was able to work in an inpatient psychiatric hospital with all ages and range of mental illnesses.

Amy utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy primarily. Depending on the patient, Amy also incorporates motivational interviewing, and reality-based therapy into practice. Amy is skilled in working with clients with substance abuse issues in which motivational interviewing is the primary mode of therapy. Amy also has extensive experience in working with the patient and families going through life changes regarding aging, having many years of working as a nursing home social worker.  

She believes that clients need to gain knowledge, and coping skills during and after treatment to be successful. Amy believes in supporting a client and working through their problems collaboratively by listening, problem solving and encouraging.
