Biographical Information:

 

Dr. Laurie Mastrogianis received her master’s degree from Oakland University in 1989 and graduated with her Ph.D. from Wayne State University in 1998 where she was a recipient of a graduate professional scholarship.  She completed a specialization in clinical behavioral medicine after studying with Dr. Herbert Benson of Harvard Medical School’s Department of Continuing Education.  She uses a whole person approach to counseling which is aimed at empowering adults with the ability to achieve optimal well-being across the physical, psychological, social, spiritual and environmental dimensions of self.

 

Dr. Laurie is also experienced in research, public speaking and writing.  In 1988 she received a grant from the National Funeral Directors Association to study the unique counseling needs of bereaved men.  The results of her study helped change aftercare programming in the country.  In addition she is highly experienced in public speaking and has provided over 200 presentations to corporations, church groups, civic organizations and was a featured regular guest on WJR’s Secrets to Good Health.  In addition, she has co-written a self-training manual for soccer players based on the principles of mind/body wellness and character building for developing young athletes.

 

Prior to joining Perspectives, Dr. Laurie taught several courses in counseling and wellness at Oakland University and Wayne State University.
